When Was Rwanda Colonized By Belgium?

Is the voting age in Rwanda influenced by Belgium's voting age?

Rwanda was colonized by Belgium so it would make sense. Any answers?

At the independence, the voting age in Belgium was 21 years (1961). As far as I know the first election was also based on this age in Rwanda but I don't know which is the voting age know in Rwanda.
Before in many countries the age to be considered legally adult was 21. Now it is in Belgium 18 (as in more and more countries).

Is Rwanda a member of the United Nations?

If so when did it become a member? Was it before, during or after the Rwandan genocide?

Yes it is a member of the United Nations.

Ruanda-Urundi became a United Nations Trust Territory in 1946, governed by Belgium.
On July 1, 1962, Belgium, with UN oversight, granted full independence to Rwanda.

But this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_member_states#Current_members states that it joined on the 18th September 1962.

Rwanda? South Africa?

I am writing an essay for history comparing the events of the Rwandan Genocide to those of the 1995 apartheid in South Africa. One topic I must cover is "Why was race a cooperating factor in one, and not the other?" Please help! thank you(: I know that. I just wrote 2 pages explaining the events in each but it's more, I have to now compare the two.

Hello, One of the genocides that has been in the 1900s is the genocide of Rwanda, a small, poor, central African country. The Rwandan genocide was the systematic extermination of over eight hundred thousand Tutsi, an ethnic group in Rwanda, by the Hutu, another ethnic group in Rwanda. In this essay I will tell you the history of the conflict of the Hutu and Tutsi, the 100 days of genocide in 1994, and what happened on the economy and the people of Rwanda.
First look at the history of the Hutu and the Tutsi. In the early 1900's, the Tutsi were placed in positions of power by Belgium, because they looked "whiter". Governed by Belgium's racist way of thought, ethnic identity cards were introduced. (www.globalpolicy.org) The Catholic Church supported the Tutsi and the new social order and educated the Tutsi and imposed their religion on them. Though the population of Rwanda was ninety percent Hutu, they were denied land ownership, education, and positions of power. In the 1950's, the end of the colonial period, the Hutu took over the Tutsi government. Read the complete essay here:

Why the Rwandan Genocide Occurs?

i need help on this question for a study guide.

The Rwandan genocide occurred as a result of a long history dating back to colonial times when Rwanda was under control by belgium, who created identity cards amongst the people of Rwanda. These "identity" cards created a false sense of superiority by the tutsis (who were said to be taller and thinner) over the hutus. Even though both groups follow the same traditions, speak the same language, and historically lived in the same area, the belgians and their institution of those identity cards identifying rwandan's as either "tutsi" or "hutu"helped them both think other wise.

Because the Hutu's were denied the same level of opportunities as the Tutsis, the eventually grew resentful and expelled more than 20,000 tutsis from Rwanda . After Belgium gave rwanda independence, tutsis in uganda were already forming an alliance ( rwandan patriotic front) to return to their homeland and overthrow the government . A peace deal was signed between the then rwandan president and the RPF, but when the president, who was hutu, plane was shut down, tutsis were immediately blamed and so around the country , the mass killings of tutsis began as a form of retribution . Eventually, the RPF did capture kigali , the capital of rwanda, and the old government collapsed which resulted in a ceasefire.
