Can you give me some types of indigenous Swiss foods?
I'm trying to make a list of authentic, indigenous Swiss foods, but many of their foods are adapted from surrounding countries (Germany, France, Austria, Italy). Besides raclette and fondue, what other foods are originated from Switzerland?
Zürich Geschnetzeltes with Rösti
These are some authentic Swiss dishes (including deserts). You can't eat them everywhere in Switzerland because some of them are quite regional.
En guete (means bon appetit in Swiss German)
Do people in Germany celebrate christmas?
Yes, actually Christmas originated in Germany. I don't know all the details of it, but I am quite postive. so i would say definitely yes, as long as they are of a certain religion.
Why do we consider quiche a french food when it was actually originated in Germany?
Quiche was originated in Germany. Every time quiche is served, though, it is considered to be a French dish. Why is that?
for the same reason that chow meain is considered chinese, spaghetti and meatballs is considered italian, french fries are considered french, swedish meatballs considered swedish, The list goes on and on.
What are some typical 'American' dishes that actually originated from other countries?
I am doing an ethnic cooking experience in my third grade class. I am looking for some familiar foods, like pizza, french bread, etc. that originally came from other countries. Please tell me where the foods come from. Thanks!
Spaghetti and meatballs - Yes, Italy created spaghetti, and created Italian meatballs, but the American dish we know won't be found in any Italian restaurant.
Pizza - Used to be basically "leftovers thrown on foccacia bread" but got altered when it arrived in New York.
Apple Pie - apples came from Germany, and the pie crust came from France/England. Dutch Apple Pie came uses elements from...the Dutch.
Doughnuts are said to have originated from the Dutch as well, before being modified in the US.
Nachos - Well, these were created in Mexico to appease a group of hungry American tourists who brought the recipe back with them, creating the dish we know today.
Fried Mars Bars - Thank the Scottish for this idea of dipping a candy bar into batter, then frying it. The success of this has led to many of the fried foods found at the State Fair now.
Another idea would be to incorporate foods that came from other countries, but were altered in the US and turned into new dishes.
Examples of this would be the Chinese dish, Chop Suey. It's basically stir-fried left overs, which is why no two restaurants make it the same way. The Burrito is another one. Each of the elements is clearly Mexican but leave it to an enterprising Mexican restaurant owner to try and make a Mexican "sandwich"
