How Did Lyme Disease Start?
Can ALL ticks transmit Lyme Disease?
What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is an infection that is spread by ticks. You can get Lyme disease if you are bitten by an infected tick. But most people who have had a tick bite do not get Lyme disease. It’s still important to see your doctor if you have a tick attached to you that you can't remove.
Lyme disease is common in the United States. It can also be found in Canada, Europe, and Asia.
What causes Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is caused by bacteria. Infected ticks spread the bacteria by biting people or animals.
Two types of ticks carry the Lyme disease bacteria in the U.S. They are:
* Deer ticks . They spread the disease in the Northeast and Midwest.
* Western black-legged ticks . They spread the disease along the Pacific coast, mostly in northern California and Oregon.
Remove ticks as soon as you notice them. Infected ticks usually don't spread Lyme disease until they have been attached for at least 36 hours.
info on Lyme disease?
a friends dog got Lyme disease a few weeks back and is on her last pill of amoxaciline (sp?) and she wants me to take my dog a long with hers up to her parents house today for a play date but i'm afraid my dog can catch it even though she told me that my dog cant catch it from her dog. I don't know much about Lyme disease and would like to know 100% sure that my dog cant get it from her dog before my dog goes for another play date(they always have play dates but havent had one since she got Lyme Disease) i would like answers from people who really truly know the answer to this, thank you in advance!
Lyme disease is carried by tics, it depends on the area you live in as to whether or not your dog will contract the disease.
Dog's do not pass on Lyme disease to each other, only the tic does. If the dog has the tic attached to it still then yes it can be passed to your dog.
Lyme disease can also be contracted by humans
What CAN happen if the Vet gave a wrong diagnosis for Lyme Disease to my dog?
He was given an injection & antibiotics. What if that injection had the strain of Lyme disease in ln it like the flu. I used Frontline Plus about 4 days prior so I an even more concerned. Also the Vet did not do a blood or urine test-only stool for other diseases.
Don't you know what type of injection your dog was given? It was likely a antibiotic to supplement to oral antibiotics. There would be no reason to give the Lyme disease vaccine to your dog if it already had Lyme disease. Regardless the Lyme disease vaccine would not give your dog Lyme disease
Incubation for Lyme disease to for the dog to become symptomatic is much longer than 4 days. I would question a diagnosis without proper testing however. Treatment for Lyme disease is antibiotics which won't harm your dog. The only problem would be if the dog had something else that wouldn't respond to the antibiotics given.
question about catching lyme disease?
my friend and i are going at it..her bf has lyme disease and she eats after him all the time (sharing spoons and forks). he's been treated but i do kno it stay's stagnant in your body. can she catch it if she does that??
Nope. Lyme disease is contracted through a vector. In the case of lyme disease, the vector happens to be a tick. It enters directly into the blood stream, and therefore, sharing spoon or swapping saliva is not a risk.
Anyone have any experience with Lyme disease?
A couple months ago I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and I was given doxycycline to take for a month and a half. The last test came back negative, but my doctor never even called for a follow-up. Another doctor (deals with a different field) told me I might want to get a second opinion. Could I still have it even if a test comes back negative? Also, this year I developed depression and anxiety and that is how I discovered I had Lyme disease because my doctor said Lyme can cause chemical imbalances, so I was tested. If the Lyme disease is gone, shouldn't the depression and anxiety be gone too?
I have never heard that lyme disease causes anxiety or depression. I have both and dont have lyme disease. I had it once after removing a tick off my back. I would see another doctor if I was you. Sound if someone is pulling your leg. Then again maybe not just I have anxiety and depression and I dont have it .
